Requirements for Agronomy Major - Bachelor of Science in Agriculture:


Freshman Year:


  • Specialization and Elective Courses Credits:0-5 in Fall and  0-6 in Spring
    See note below

SGR Goal 2 *: Oral Communication

SGR Goal 3 *: Social Sciences/ Diversity


Choose one of the following:

SGR Goal 5*: Mathematics

Sophomore Year:


  • SGR Goal 4: Humanities and Arts/Diversity Credits: 6

  • IGR Goal 3: Social Responsibility/Cultural and Aesthetic Awareness Credits: 3

Agronomy Major Core Curriculum:


The following courses (27 credits) are required in all areas of specialization under the agronomy major. A student must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher in the courses used to satisfy the Agronomy core curriculum in order to graduate with a major in Agronomy.

Business Specialization:


  • Business Electives (see list below) Credits: 6
  • Plant Science Electives  (at least two credits from each of three areas listed on this page) Credits: 10
    (See note one below)
  • Unrestricted Electives Credits: 5-10

See Production Specialization for list of approved Plant Science Elective courses in crops, plant protection, and soils/environmental protection areas.

Note:


Courses in Business electives cannot be used to meet other Agronomy major or specialization requirements.

Production Specialization:


  • Plant Science Electives (at least two credits from each of three areas listed below) Credits: 13

  • Unrestricted Electives Credits: 14-19

Pest Management Specialization:

Plant Systems and Environmental Safety (4-8 credits):

  • Area of Specialization (Crop Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, or Weed Science) Credits: 13 (See note three below)
  • Unrestricted Electives Credits: 2-4

Courses are to have PS prefix and are not to include courses used to fulfill the Biological Science core of the major. Maximum of 3 credits from PS 492.
