Program Information

The McComish Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science offers the Ph.D. in Computer Science. The Computer Science program prepares graduates for positions in the design and development of computer languages, systems, and applications in business and industry and for higher academic positions in research and education. The program will emphasize expertise in fundamental and applied topics of Computer Science such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, data mining and analytics with special applications to domains such as precision agriculture. Areas of research interest within the department currently include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Computer Vision, Parallel Processing, Applied Computing, Computer Security, Cloud and Mobile Computing, and Computer Networks.

Course Delivery Format

A majority of the courses are taught on campus in smart classrooms. The smart classrooms allow for a variety of methods for student engagement and faculty are able to record and post their lectures online.

Courses Supporting the Ph.D. Program


The doctoral curriculum assumes that a student enters the program with a master’s degree in Computer Science. Students with a Master of Science in Computer Science will be awarded 30 total core and/or elective credits. Students who enter the program with a master’s degree in a closely related field may be awarded up to 30 core and elective credits.
