HIST 462 - Formation of Federal Indian PolicyCredits: 3 This course will examine the development of U.S. policies on American Indian/Alaska Native peoples. Topics will include the legal and theological underpinnings of federal Indian policy, constitutional arguments for Congressional control of Indian affairs, treaty-making, allotment, termination, the Reorganization Act, and self-determination. The course will conclude with an examination of current federal policies on such issues as Indian gaming and child welfare.
