MICR 233-233L - Introductory Microbiology and LabCredits: 4 Introductory microbiology course for biology, microbiology and biotechnology majors. Basics of microbial cell structure and function; viral structure; microbial diversity and evolution; interactions between microbes and plants/animals; biogeochemical cycling; microbial growth; and control of microorganisms. The laboratory will include aseptic technique; use of bright-field microscopes; common staining techniques; cultivation of various microbes; investigations of diversity; metabolic characteristics; microbial growth and control of microbial growth/metabolism. Prerequisites: Completion of BIOL 151 and 6 credits college chemistry. Corequisites: MICR 233L-233.
