SOC 482-582 - Sociology of Law


This course focuses on the relationship between law and society. Topics include the organization of law in society, law and social control, law as a method of conflict resolution, law as a mechanism of social change, law as a profession, and methods of inquiry in research. The course will also look at alternative dispute resolution techniques, for example mediation. Comparative, and cross-cultural materials will be used throughout the class to emphasize diversity in law.Credits: 3
