Program Information
The Bioethics Certificate provides students with foundational knowledge and applied skills in the ethical principles that guide medical practice, biomedical and biotechnology research, and the life sciences. Bioethics is an interdisciplinary field that examines moral, legal, and social questions arising in healthcare, research involving human participants, and emerging issues in biology and biological technologies. Students in this program develop competency in ethical decision-making, responsible conduct of research, patient rights, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and the economic and legal consequences of unethical practice. The curriculum emphasizes critical reasoning and effective communication in addressing complex and often controversial issues in medicine and the biological sciences.
This certificate is designed to complement majors in medical, biological, biotechnology, and health-related disciplines. It is particularly beneficial for students pursuing careers or advanced study in medicine, nursing, biomedical sciences, biotechnology, healthcare systems engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, medical laboratory science, and related pre-professional programs (e.g., Pre-Medicine, Pre-Physician Assistant, Pre-Genetic Counseling, Pre-Law, Pre-Ministerial).
