Dietetics

Program Description.

Dietetics prepares Registered Dietitians to practice dietetics at an advanced level and/or pursue doctoral study.  The program seeks to develop research skills, stimulate independent thought, and provide up-to-date knowledge in foods, nutrition, and food service/business management.  This program prepares individuals to integrate and apply the principles ranging from the biomedical sciences, human behavior, and management to design, and to lead effective food and nutrition programs in a variety of settings.  This online program will be a degree tailored for credentialed, practicing dietetics professionals who seek to enhance their knowledge in a specific area of dietetics practice or to retool for new career opportunities in dietetics practice.  The following courses are only taught through the GP Ideas program:  NFS 705, NFS 722, NFS 723, NFS 727, NFS 728, NFS 729, NFS 734, NFS 741, NFS 742, NFS 765.

Core Requirements


For the master’s degree students will be required to complete thirty-six (36) credit hours.  This includes 1) all core courses, 2) 15 credits from electives, and 3) 6 thesis, research paper or comprehensive written exam credits.  

15 credits of core courses (must include STATS 541, NFS 734, and NFS 790) plus

your choice of:

NFS 702 - Macronutrients of Human Nutrition AND
NFS 760 - Vitamins and Minerals

OR

NFS 742 - Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice in Dietetics AND
NFS 765 - Dietetics Accounting Concepts and Analysis

and 15 elective credits from:

plus 6 credits for Thesis/Comprehensive Paper/Project:

For the master’s degree, students will be required to complete thirty-six (36) credit hours.  Of these six (6) hrs can be thesis (Option A, NFS 790), research paper (Option B, NFS 788), or comprehensive written exam (Option C).

 

The student’s schedule of courses must be approved by his/her faculty advisor and graduate committee. 

Additional Admission Requirements


GRE: Not required
TOEFL: required score of 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, 79-80 Internet-based
IELTS:  6.0

You must be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), submitting a copy of a current RD card as documentation.
