Requirements for Teacher Education Minors:
Frequently students in the teacher education program complete a combination of courses that constitute a minor. These would be courses not included in a student’s major. For detailed information consult with the Certifying Officer of the College of Education and Human Sciences who is the minor adviser. These minors are listed below: Social Science Minor:
The minimum requirement for a Social Science Minor at South Dakota State University is 24 credit hours. The student must have emphases in two of the three following subject areas: 8 credits from one of the following:
A student may choose the remaining 8 credits from one of the following subject areas or the remaining third area from above: Language Arts Minor:
- English electives Credits: 7
- Journalism and Mass Communications elective Credits: 2
- Speech electives Credits: 3
General Science Minor:

- Electives in Botany, Zoology, Biology, Microbiology, or Wildlife Credits: 9
Physical Science Minor
