The department offers comprehensive M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences that prepare graduates for academic, industry, and research careers. Our graduates are well-placed (100% placement) in academic, pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, and research institutions as well as regulatory agencies in the US (US-FDA) and other countries. In addition to receiving national recognition for their research work, the graduate students are also active in various national scientific organizations.
Our highly dedicated faculty members provide quality education and research training in the pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences. The faculty have been recognized for the use of new teaching methods and technologies to enhance student learning. The department has an active research program in cancer, cardiovascular pharmacology, neuropharmacology, nanotechnology, infectious diseases, immunology, and eye diseases. The research expertise in the department includes medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology, and pharmaceutics (drug and vaccine delivery systems).

The graduate program is housed in the Avera Health and Science Center on the Brookings campus. The Avera Health and Science Center has well-equipped classrooms that utilize modern technology for delivering the curriculum. The facility has modern research laboratories with access to state-of-art equipment and facilities that support our growing research program.
Student Support and Engagement Opportunities
Graduate students may choose to become involved with the College’s Honorary societies and other student organizations including the student chapter of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS).
