PHYS 739 - Condensed Matter Physics I

Topics include crystal structure an the reciprocal lattice, quantum theory of electrons and phonons, x-ray diffraction, crystal binding energies, and energy band theory.  Additionally topics may be chosen from the properties of metals, semiconductors, and insulators.  Pre-requisites: PHYS 439 or PHYS 539. Credits: 3
