CHEM 115-115L - Atomic and Molecular Structure and Lab*

This is the first course in a four-course sequence that serves as an advanced introduction to the principles of general chemistry relevant to preparation for organic chemistry. Topics covered include atomic structure, theories of bonding, molecular structure, inter- and intra-molecular forces, the structure-activity relationship, and qualitative thermochemistry. This course is intended for students majoring in chemistry or biochemistry, or those who have been admitted to the honors college. Completion of a high school course in chemistry is required. AP credit will not be acknowledged as equivalent to CHEM 115. CHEM 112/CHEM 112L may not be substituted for CHEM 115/CHEM 115L unless explicitly allowed by the department head.

Laboratory course to accompany CHEM 115. Corequisites: CHEM 115L-CHEM 115 and MATH 102. Notes: * Course meets SGR #6 .
