Requirements for Agricultural Business Major - Bachelor of Science in Agriculture


Freshman Year


Fall or Spring


  • SGR Goal 4: Humanities and Arts Credits: 3*
  • IGR Goal 2: Personal Wellness Credits: 2-3**
  • Natural Science Elective Credits: 3*
  • Group I Elective 2 in Fall or 3 in Spring

  • One Additional course prefixed AGEC Credits: 3

Fall or Spring


  • Electives prefixed ACCT, AGEC, BADM, or ECON Credits:3
  • General Electives Credits: 5 in Fall or 6 in Spring

Accelerated Master’s Degree


Outstanding students majoring in Agricultural and Resource Economics, Agricultural Business, Economics, or Economics with a Business specialization may complete their Baccalaureate degree and Master of Science in Economics combined in five years. Students may apply for admission to the combined program during the Fall Semester of their junior year. Those admitted as graduate students may take dual listed 400-500 level courses at the graduate (500) level during their fourth (senior) year (see below). See the SDSU Graduate Catalog or the Department’s Graduate Coordinators Dr. Santos or Dr. Zimmerman for complete details for the fifth year.

* The 30 credit Board of Regents System General Education Requirements (SGRs) must be completed as part of a student’s first 64 credits.

** South Dakota State University has an 8-9 credit Institutional Graduation Requirement (IGRs).

(AW) Advanced Writing Requirement.

Students must take the proficiency examination after completing 48 credits. English 101, and a course in each of the General Education areas of social science, mathematics, natural science, and humanities and arts must be taken prior to taking this exam.
